I need a new Laptop

GGGRRR!!! I need a new laptop because the one that I am using is making me crazy....My hubby bought this HP +Laptop in the US and it is only been I guess almost 2 years. It already undergone 2 or 3 reformats and now it is kinda slowing down and sometimes it pauses for a few seconds, I do not know what to do. I told hubby to get me a new one before my old laptop totally shuts down. A friend of mine told me to get an Asus laptop. How about you, what do you think is a great brand (not Sony & Apple, because it is expensive)???
